The Lost Teachings

Scriptures of Eternal Truths

It was known in India in 1781 after the last Shankaracharya of the North Seat in Jyothir Math passed, which is the Highest Spiritual Principal Seat of North India, that no one had enough Spiritual development to take this Holy Seat. For over one hundred and sixty years, it lay vacant as no one had the Spiritual development or Knowledge of the Scriptures to be able to administrate to the other three Spiritual Seats of East, South and West which govern and lead the people in the Spiritual Teachings of the Eight Paths that comprise Santana Dharma⁽¹⁾ the Scriptures of Eternal Truths.

Around fifteen hundred years ago, (BCE from this written text) Shrimad Adi Shankaracharya⁽²⁾ gave a new dimension of understanding to the Vedic Religion that is around ten thousand years old. The knowledge came out again in a new ethical era. The Vedas are the Spiritual Sciences, the Shastra's are the Holy Scriptures, the Divine Illuminations; and one's life must be lived practically and spiritually with regard to the welfare of all beings and all aspects of life. Adi Shankar set up four major Seats in four well-known centers of learning. According to Tradition, for the Swami to be installed in the Highest Spiritual Seat of the Four Spiritual Maths,⁽³⁾ of Learning, he had to be one of the Priestly Caste, Brahmin Family, linked by direct descent to one of the Shankaracharya Maths, maintain the strict Guru-disciple chain, he must be a Dandi Swami⁽⁴⁾ of the ascetic order in accordance with tradition, he must be learned, upright, intelligent, intellectual, well versed in scriptures, and uphold the principle of Oneness, self-controlled, and expert in teaching the Vedas and in Union with the Divine.

Finding Source

Here we begin the narrative, and we see the child Swami Brahmananda then known as “Maharaj Shri” began the next part of his life now firmly dedicated to God at the age of eight in 1879 due to the Spiritual teachings of his grandfather. Discouraged with life as seeing the one person he loved with his entire heart die; he set out to find this Source, this One Eternal Spirit with many Names. The words chanted at the time of death of his grandfather and as the body was taken for cremation were; “Ram Naam Satya Hai”, which means, “Lord, Thy Name is Truth” or “The Lords Name confers Truth”; this Eternal Truth was held in his heart and mind. This young aspirant at the tender age of eight thought as he heard these words; “What is this meaning of life, what is inside one that is so valuable” and that one such as his grandfather would spend an entire life in Spiritual discipline's and find such meaning?

Not wanting a worldly life like others, but resolved to know himself with one pointed attention to know God, he set out to make his way to the revered Himalayas to find a Spiritual Teacher at the tender age of nine. He held the following qualifications firmly in his heart for his Spiritual Teacher: he must be a life celibate, knower of all Scripture and one who does not hold anger. It took him several years to find his perfect Master, Swami Krishnanand Saraswati. Briefly, Swami Brahmananda after Initiation and many years under the direct discipleship of his Teacher, Swami Krishnanand Saraswati, completed study of the Scriptures and Yoga, and then traveled all over India due to his love and devotion to God and his Teacher; he also Mastered all Eight Paths of Yoga defined later in this work. It must be remembered that this achievement allowed Swami Brahmananda Saraswati, whose name means “Life Celibate Teacher of The Creator Brahma, Bliss Incarnate and Knower of all Scriptures”, was repeatedly asked to take the Holy North Seat for twenty years until in 1941, at the age of seventy-one, he finally accepted due to compassion for all humanity.

Swami Brahmananda then became known as H. H. Swami Brahmanand Saraswati Maharaj, the illustrious Jagad Guru⁽⁵⁾ of Jyothir Math Peeth, Badrikashram Himalayas, and to whom we affectionately call Guru Dev, “Knower and Teacher of God”. Born: 21 December 1871, Passed: 20 May 1953. He was the Shankaracharya of Jyothir Math from 1941 – 1953.

Sacred Knowledge and Teachings

Destined because of his Spiritual development, knowledge and compassion for all life, he was able to Teach the Sacred Knowledge and give out the Teachings that had not been taught for now over 2,000 (for over two thousand years, dating back from the year nineteen hundred and forty-one) since the time of Christ Jesus; whose name means, “One who is Anointed in God”. Specifically, this is the Ancient Teachings of the Empowered Word that was taught to only a few of the Apostles and Disciples of Yeshua (known as Christ Jesus and Isa in India) who were both male and female. In paintings, this transference of the Sacred Holy Word is seen as the Dove, with the Descending Light, it is also witnessed in a Christian Mass as the Host, which is held and offered up as the Spiritual Energy of Christ is infused, with the Empowerment by the one pointed attention and Prayers of the Priest, whose heart and mind must be completely surrendered to God and the Greater Power. The Host is also symbolic of our Soul and body, which is surrendered to the Holy Spirit or Paramatma, The Eternal Light, as the Light within one has no gender, and as Light has no beginning and no end. This defines the eternal aspect of the Soul, as one awakens to the immortality of their Spirit and by the process of growth and purification of the mind and will gains the Higher Light, the descending Supreme Grace.

This is the Knowledge that was passed to me by my Teacher, Charlie F. Lutes,⁽⁶⁾ directly from H. H. Maharishi Mahesh Yogi,⁽⁷⁾ as Charlie and Helen Lutes were the first two people Maharishi Initiated in the continental USA in 1959. Maharishi was with H. H. Swami Brahmananda Saraswati for thirteen years until his passing in 1953. Guru Dev gave Maharishi a Teaching for the masses, a means to know God within, “allowing us to enjoy the Light of the Sun, which is self-illuminating”⁽⁸⁾ to end suffering, as the Keys to the Kingdom had been lost over centuries, so now it was to be given for the householder as well as the recluse as each way of life is considered a Path to God.

“...Know this: through homage, repeated inquiry and service. The Men of Knowledge⁽⁹⁾ who have experienced Reality will Teach⁽¹⁰⁾ you knowledge.” Bhagavad Gita, Chapter Four; Verse Thirteen; 4 -13.

Because Maharishi was not of the Brahmin Caste^(11)(12) he was able to leave India and by his own volition, quietly made his way to give mankind the “Highest Teaching on the Planet” (this statement was also made to Charlie Lutes direct by Manly P. Hall, in the year 1959, when he asked to leave the Mystery Schools and be with Maharishi).

Tradition demands that Maharishi ask Charlie to be with him and to seek permission from his current Teachers⁽¹³⁾ so the Empowered Sacred Word of God, which in the past, had only been given to a chosen few, could reach all people all over the world. Charlie Lutes was then released from his Teachers with their Blessings to be with Maharishi Mahesh Yogi.

Love and God

Maharishi wrote the following in his book, “Love and God”; “...My Love, God, I am Thine Instrument, I am, ... and I am glad to say I know I am Thine Instrument... and I and am glad to say: “Thou usest me”, My Lord.”⁽¹⁴⁾

There can be no doubt here when we look to the above statement written by Maharishi and see with our hearts into his words his devoted love for God. These are not the words of a “meaningless” Teaching of nameless sounds; these are not the words of a mind with desires for power, money or adulation. They are clearly the words of a surrendered heart; full of love for God and compassion for all of His Creation to Know Him and to know the higher Truths contained within these Teachings and the Sacred Un- Spoken Names. It is this inner strength that has been behind all the great Prophets and Saints, behind all who serve God and His Kingdom. Maharishi is truly One of these Great Beings.

Geoffrey Hudson writes the following in his book, “Man the Triune God”; “...the immanent and transcendent meet in the Ruler of a universe; united must they also become in external manifestation. Angels and men (humans) must recognize their affinity, together labour for the fulfillment of the divine Will, and together enter into the full manifestation of their spiritual heritage. Thus the One Will shall rule, the One Love shall enfold and protect, and the One Power shall be made manifest throughout all worlds”.⁽¹⁵⁾

Maharishi Mahesh Yogi brought out to the world the Lost Teachings of the lost Word; the sacred hidden “Word” to transcend the relative field of life and the mind to know and experience God within and through experience; one becomes the Living Spirit. The Living Spirit is now the “Awake” Cell of Light within the Body of God, the Supreme Being, and becomes “One With” The Divine Will.

We transcend the relative field reach Union or Yoga, to fulfill the destiny of life and to transform the lower nature for the higher, to become the divine human and enter the Kingdom of God while living on earth...

As part of his TTC he had to write by hand the entire puja as it was dictated to him. I have his hand-written copy. Charlie was made a TM teacher in 1969. It was in Kashmir, India, at the Hotel Green View at Dal Lake. That is when I met Charlie. He came there just to get his Initiation into TM teacher. In the early 70's, when I worked at National [TM Headquarters], I had access to the directory of initiators. I personally looked into the directory; Charlie's name is in the directory and the year that he was made an initiator is listed as 1969. So, I know first-hand that Charlie went through the TTC training and that he indeed became an initiator. Regardless of Caste, which was Transcended by Lord Buddha, Lord Jesus Christ, Great Sages and Saints such as Ramana Maharshi, Mahatma Gandhi and others, conscious Self-Realization changed this perception. Maharishi Mahesh Yogi taught one could elevate their status through Meditation, Knowledge, Scripture, Right action and service. Through Transcendental Consciousness, each person is understood as equal and capable, and through these higher states of consciousness and selfless acts of compassion, one's outer life can be transformed and one can experience God.
