Commentary on Meditation by Joseph Michael Soos

The following excellent commentary by Joseph Michael Soos addresses a recent posting by Dr. Diane M. Rousseau of a Charlie Lutes Lecture and an insightful commentary on Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, TM Meditation©, Transcendence, and its many expansive benefits. -DMR

Dear Diane - much appreciated. Many thanks for posting this (Charlie Lutes Lecture).

Meditation and Dharma

As Maharishi stated “The purpose of creation is the expansion of happiness”. There is a lot to unpack in that statement, and all the comments above (relating to the Charlie Lutes Lecture and Maharishi) could be regarded as relevant commentary on this statement.

Doing TM, as Dr. Diane M. Rousseau reminded us from Maharishi's other advice, allows us to transcend even Spirit, as well as the mind and body, so we connect to source from which the universe arose. So, it's very powerful, and no matter how we feel before TM, it is always guaranteed, as long as we are sufficiently rested, that we experience bliss, happiness, and peace during TM. In Maharishi's Gita commentary, this experience and practice is our real Dharma for every single human being - to not only to experience bliss, happiness, and peace within ourselves, but as a byproduct, we also stimulate and create those qualities throughout the whole multi-verse and by extension, in the lives and experience of ALL beings throughout the multiverse.

One's relative Dharma, in terms of what vocation one has and the service one provides to humanity, is still important, as it adds to the bliss, and if one's vocation is in tune with Graha planetary support as indicated in one's Jyotish Janma Kundali birth chart, then one's daily activity to support oneself and one's family becomes more frictionless and effortless and thus one's meditation is deeper as one is not so fatigued beforehand. However, as important as one's relative Dharma is, it is still secondary to one's primary Dharma to transcend spiritually, physically, and mentally, as one does powerfully and effortlessly through Maharishi's TM. As Jeff May mentioned, “I heard a tape where Maharishi said that meditation was the highest form of service.”

The Creator Becomes the Charioteer

So, it is a great relief in the sense that, by doing TM, we then know we are doing the right Dharma, irrespective of whether or not we feel we are doing the “right” relative vocational Dharma. As Maharishi often said, he enjoyed making life simple for everyone, and TM allows this in spades, not least of which is getting more support of Nature, as elicited by Maharishi reminding us of that quote:

Dashame yuge yatinam Brahma bhavati sarathih (Rk Veda, 1.158.6)

Translation: ‘For those established in self-referral consciousness, the infinite organizing power of the Creator becomes the charioteer of all action.'

“This phrase expresses the behavioral quality of the supreme level of evolution of consciousness. When consciousness is free from any limitation—when individual consciousness is fully awake in its unbounded self-sufficiency—it is wide awake in its supreme, royal, cosmic dignity such that the awareness is a lively field of total silence and total dynamism —the unbounded, infinite field of total Natural Law awake, in itself, in the state of complete fulfilment. At the same time, all the specific Laws of Nature are fully awake—all the holistic and specific values of the infinite organizing power of Natural Law are fully awake within this state of consciousness, or intelligence.”

It is important to recognize the “Dashame yuge yatinam” bit - one needs to transcend to strengthen that value of self-referral consciousness, transcendence, pure consciousness, the absolute, the unified field of all the laws of Nature, Brahman, the source of Vishwa, the universe, to increase one's deserving power and connection with the laws of Nature and the ultimate powers that be in Vishwa, so the Creator is more likely to favor being the charioteer of your action. Strengthen Being, and Brahma favors “being” the charioteer for you.

The Expansion of Happiness

Some people find Nature support to be so powerful that they even find that some desires are even fulfilled before they have the desire - this is the “Karma Miminsa” God Consciousness level of functioning level of Nature, and is characteristic of the timeless value of Brahman at the core of the absolute and the relative multiverse.

So it is great blessing, and maybe sometimes one feels an undeserved one, that The Holy Vedic Tradition, Guru Dev, Maharishi and other Powers that be have been so generous to pass on this powerful Knowledge to us for our individual and collective benefit in the background dark age of Kali Yuga, where even Sri Devi Mother Divine intimated to Maharishi that at this time humanity was “doomed”, but gave Maharishi 50 years (which ended in 2003) to reverse this trend, which he, with the help clearly of Guru Dev and the Holy Vedic Tradition, has pulled off magnificently despite some powerful opposition from other “dark” powers that also be, including vested interests wanting to sustain and keep promoting conflicts, wars and usage of fossil fuels for the sake of making money while destroying lives and the environment. And we are all aware of the fact Maharishi at least 3 times saved the world from total annihilation through his insight and direct action, subtle and surface, and mobilizing meditators to the right places and the right times.

As mentioned at the start, a lot to unpack from Maharishi's statement “the purpose of creation is the expansion of happiness” and a good uplifting and concluding note to “meditate” on and experience.
